The penultimate week of the season saw the visit of a struggling Barton Seagrave to the green, a very gloomy and dull day. A lot of rain was due throughout the day and as result the skipper delegated the toss to Martin Nichols, who apparently knows how to call the right decision. Of course he lost and we were put into bat.
It was a good toss to lose as Sean Thornton was promoted to open with a retuning Ian Andrews after a broken finger. The hosts managed to rack up 317 for 7 which is a 2nd team record and the 2nd biggest total since the inception of the club. Sean was the anchor of the innings falling desperately short of a century on 98 with the score on 199 for 5 off 26 overs. There were top order contributions but a 60 run partnership between James Andrews (39) and Ryan Lines (33*) and a 5 ball cameo from Archie McMillan (16*) the highlights.
With the weather threatening and playing most of the 2nds innings through on and off drizzle and light rain they managed to see off the visitors in 24 overs for 81 all out. There were notable contributions from Duncan Williamson (14) and Ross Calcott (18) the main defence. Some impressive bowling spells from Rees Moor (3-13), Matt Sutton (2-13) and Fergus Deery (2-21) causing the most damage. The hosts winning by a comfortable 236 runs.
