Willoughby 2nds Vs Bold Dragoon

It was another day to forget in the field for the 2nd team as they slumped to 3 successive losses in the season and will have to pull off a recovery to secure a much needed promotion. The relatively short distance to Bold Dragoon who have started the season strong look like they will certainly be challenging at the top this season.

After another loss of the toss the team were stuck into bat and after a solid start from Matt Goss (26) and Martyn Norman (22) built foundations at 79 for 2 from the first 20 overs. Bold Dragoon only utilising 4 bowlers dragged themselves back into contention with a notable contribution from Sean Thornton (26). At 124 for 6 off 32 overs it was a below par score on a excellent batting surface, Jonnie Taylor (32*) on debut with Ryan Perry (38*) produced a 70 run sixth wicket partnership to accelerate the run rate and finish the innings 6 short of 200 at 194. A defendable score but another innings where the team were bogged down during the middle overs. Heyworth 3 for 28 and Jennings 2 for 38.

With numerous bowling options unavailable the target was still defendable but it was another day to forget as from the off Bold raced out of the blocks and within 20 overs chalked up 126 for 0 at 20 overs. Bowling changes were required and nobody found any line, length and gifted the Bold batters runs through the innings. The only notable figures were 2 late wickets for Martyn Norman 2 for 26. Another very disappointing bowling display, Sheperd after 8 years away from the game looked excellent value for his 93 and Heyworth finishing on an unbeaten 76*.

The complete opposite of last week, the spirt of Cricket endured this week as a waist high no ball was bowled, both batters didn’t know if they were coming or going and a run out ensued. Bold did the correct thing of rescinding the appeal. Great to see, an excellent bunch of lads to play cricket against despite the 8 wicket loss.
