A lovely day was on offer down at The Green as Great Oakley greeted stand in skipper Fergus Deery. GO must hate playing us, mainly because we always seem to bat first and pile on the runs. It was a surprise that GO skipper Ashley Haynes opted to field first, presumably because Ferg told him we had a strong bowling attack, but failed to mention it was probably out strongest team of the season.
The opening due of Anshul Satsangi and Sean Thronton again started off proceedings, Sean this time giving himself 6 balls before carting a shortish ball over mid on for six. That was a quiet over as Willoughby plundered 109 off the first 10 overs. Sean eventually going for a very solid 89 in the 13th over. Anshul followed soon after in the 18th over for 56. Things didn't get much better for GO as Mat Sutton (67) looked to keep up the acceleration and in the 30th over we were 258 for 4 chasing down the 328 record against Newbold during the Matt Goss Sunday glory years. Martin Nichols was happy to rotate the strike then developed his trademark backfoot pull and saw the team reach an astonishing 367 for 6 with Martin finishing on 81*. Alan York finishing 2 for 52.
After Rees Moor forgot where he parked his car, he and Archie McMillan demolished 2 20 packs of Chicken McNuggets ready for their opening salvo. There wasn't too much commotion as Archie (4-45) and Rees (2-29) restricted GO to 42 for 5 off the first 10 overs. The only substantial partnership coming from Haynes (26) and Raine (36) in a 70 run partnership. This could have been broken sooner but Martin Nichols took a nasty blow to the eyelid trying to head a cricket ball. 112 for 6 became 118 all out as Ryan Lines and Fergus Deery mopped up the tail.
The 2nds head towards the final few games sitting only 1 point off 2nd place as Bugbrooke pulled off a win against Bold Dragoon.
