2nds Cement Cup Final Place

The 2nds travelled to the home ground of St Cripsin & Ryelands looking for revenge in the Cup Semi final after they suffered a defeat in the league campaign.

The skipper won the toss and batted first on what looked like a well manicured surface, in the end it was the correct decision booking their place in the Final against Carrib Utd CC next week.

Openers Matt Cartridge (33) and Michael Deery (35) negotiated the first 15 overs with a challenging wicket to bat on with plenty of spit and dead bounce. Both openers departing cementing a good score of 87 for 2 after 22 overs. The pressure was increased with good bowling spells from Robinson (2-27) and Hurle (3 - 53) only saw the visitors up to 103 for 4 after the 30 over mark with the in from Ambrose Deery and Martin Nichols finding the conditions difficult. With wickets in hand Matt Sutton (40) was the anchor for Willoughby who increased the run rate to 7 an over for the last 10 overs, Willoughby finishing on a competitive 179 for 7.

After the break Rees Moore (2-18) and Ryan Lines (5-34) put the home side under immense pressure in the opening 16 overs. The wicket playing it's part in a few early dismissals. At 50 for 5 the home team bunkered down to rebuild the innings under the stewardship of M Tarry (23) and B Smith (21) but the bowling change to Archie McMillan (1-25) and Matt Sutton (1-25) kept them at bay into the 30th over. Chasing 7 an over which increased to 9 the counterattack began but failed to gain momentum and the middle and late order, although travelling at 6 - 8 an over lost wickets at crucial intervals and were eventually all out for 138 off 36.4 overs.

Willoughby now travel to Carrib Utd in the final where they have got the best of us this season over 2 competitive games looking to gain revenge on them winning the league campaign.
