An enjoyable renewal of last year's first fixture between the Under 15s and the ladies' tip and run team saw the former run out winners.
Having lost the toss and asked to bat first, the 15s set a useful run-a ball total, making 97 for 8. Callum top scored with 17 with Jake (15 retired not out), Dom (12) and James, Sam W-T and Archie all getting 10. Credit to the ladies for some useful fielding and bowling, especially in what was their first match back together since last year. Sarah, Julie and Josie all taking wickets in addition to five run outs.
In reply, the ladies lost some early wickets with Jake taking two athletic catches for Matty, with Justin and Ethan also getting wickets along with some generally sharp fielding from the boys. With the last wickets falling around the 60 run mark, in the spirit of cricket and the game and occasion, the ladies were invited back in and put together some useful knocks. Megan made 14 and along with Clare, George and Julie took the ladies close to the target, falling short in the last over by five runs. Matty finishing up with four wickets for the 15s, on top of some at times comical fielding.
All in all, a lovely occasion (even if it did turn a touch cold towards the end), plenty of laughs and a good run out for both teams, particularly for the 15s to work on some ground fielding after half a winter in the indoor nets.
Huge thank you to Clare and the ladies for offering to play the boys again. It was really appreciated (and talk of a decider perhaps later in the season).
From all the players and parents of the Under 15s, best wishes to the ladies tip and run team for the coming season.
