Having already beaten the visitors a few weeks ago in the KO Cup, captain Ashley Rayner won the toss and asked North Kilworth to bat first once again. Good tight bowling from Jake Quinney (4 overs, 2 wickets for 15) and Mark Fell (3 overs, 2 for 12) kept the Leicestershire village side to 99 for 8 their 18 overs. Opener Mike Dunkley top scoring for them with 45.
In reply, the hosts overcame the early loss of Scott Cluely run out for a duck as opener Ceri Roberts (54) and Hassan Nawaz (34) batted well and took on the visitor’s bowling, almost winning the game in their partnership of 90. However Roberts and then Nawaz fell, the latter departing three runs short of the target and his wicket triggered a mid-order wobble and the sight of Willoughby batsmen hurriedly padding up as Ben Hollis and Martyn Norman then also came in and return to the Pavilion in successive balls, earning Kilworth’s Ben Watson a deserved hat-trick.
However any such further alarms were quelled as Willoughby got the handful of runs needed to finish the job, winning by five wickets with almost five overs to spare.
