On an unusual day where the game was called off by Braunston Captain James Goodwin at 14:36 and then back on again at 15:00, the teams met for an 18:00 start on a very wet and very soft track. The toss was won by skipper Ashley Rayner, who decided to bat first.
An unusualy poor start saw the top 3 Willoughby batsmen out in quick sucession before skipper Ashley Rayner (26) and Hass Nawaz (31) selected the right balls to put away while defending off variations in speed and bouce from the variable pitch. Willoughby ended up on a reasonable 100 for 6.
Led by Ryan Haynes the Braunston response started well before the Willoughby bowlers reverted to line and length using the wet track to its maximum variation. All bowlers got wickets , mostly bowled (7 times) with highlights Stuart Bonthuys (3 for 15), Scott Cluely (2 for 14), Mark Fell (2 for 21) which stopped Braunton getting close ending up on 90 all out
A good start to our Division 2 season
