Willoughby v Crick Lions

Willoughby 153 all out

Crick Lions 116 for 9

Willoughby won by 37 runs

A glorious sunny afternoon at The Green saw the welcome visit of Crick Lions for another entertaining Sunday afternoon game.

Willoughby won the toss and chose to bat which at 32 for 4 did not look the best decision after a couple of excellent catches in the field by Crick. However skipper Ash Rayner and Mark Fell steadied the ship putting on a 63 run partnership before Fell was caught and bowled for 24.

Rayner continued to elude the Crick bowlers before finally falling for an excellent 68 with only an over to go, leaving the debutants Aiden Porter and Nirmay Patel to finish off the innings at 153 all out.

In reply Crick got off to a steady start, and with some excellent bowling from Justin Hanks keeping the visitors runs down to a minimum before Dom Whitfield removed the first wicket.

A change of bowling at each end continued to put the pressure on the Crick batsmen resulting in Samay Patel claiming his first senior wickets, and Mark Fell also claiming 2 wickets for only 5 runs, with 5 maidens, off 8 overs.

A further change in the bowling also saw Porter claim his first senior wickets with an impressive 2 for 12 off five overs. The final wicket of the day was taken by Nirmay Patel claiming his first senior wicket that was snapped up in the slips by Rayner.

At the end of the 40 overs Crick had replied with 116-9, leaving them 37 short.
