After a scorching day Friday heavy rain swept through the midlands as St Cripsin & Ryelands traveled to The Green. SC&R gave the team 2 very good games last year, resulting in success in the semi final of the cup and a loss in the league with a weakened team.
The 2nd's welcomed back Rees Moor from his university antics who brought the beach with him, as well as a hangover. The SC&R skipper Jason lost to toss and were stuck into bat on a day that was stop start with lots of rain around.
The opening duo of Ryan Lines and Archie McMillain left off from last week holding back the opposition to scraps with only 55 off the first 20 overs with 1 wicket taken. 1 over was lost to rain delays as the opposition set about accelerating the run rate, Matt Tarry the mainstay scoring 57 off 107 balls before the flight of Fergus Deery dismissed him. Luke Hurle the other finishing 56 off 63 balls to finish at 163 for 3 off 39 overs. McMillain 1 -29, Deery 1-28.
160 these days at The Green is a below par score and even worse if Sean Thornton gets into his groove, as last week he set off in attack mode and scored 55 off 32 balls. At 74 for 1 things were looking like this would be won at a canter but Sean Thornton, Nikesh Mistry and Matt Sutton perished as SC&R fought back through a tidy 9 over spell from Wesley Leak. After another rain delay an adjusted 151 off 34 overs was required. Fortunately SC&R didn't have the firepower as in previous meetings as Martin Nichols dug in for 27 off 72 balls as Archie McMillan hit the winning runs in the 31st over to seal a 4 wicket victory.
Another excellent win with a visit to Great Oakley next weekend.
