Willoughby 2nds Vs Old Northamptonians

It was a welcomed return to form and normality for the 2nd as they saw off a spirited Old Northamponians at The Green.

The opposition skipper lost the toss and we chose to set a target on another excellent Willoughby wicket.

Martyn Norman and Ian Andrews negotiated the opening 14 overs as Ian Andrews departed for 17 at 48 for 1. There was a welcome return for Jake Quinney (27) who put on 104 for the 3rd wicket as Marytn Norman took charge bludgeoning the ball very square and very hard. Young Melits fielded especially well in the deep saving a host of boundaries. Jake was run out at 164 for 3 in the 32nd over as Martyn secured a scintillating 100 eventually being dismissed for 113. Matt Sutton 42* looked in form as he took the team to 230 for 5 in 40 overs. The pick of the bowling Vignesh Patel with 2 for 60.

After the break there were plenty of options this week in the bowling department as Jake Quinney 1 for 15 and Ryan Lines 1 for 12 pegged back Old early on. They never really got going and with the dangerman Deeming chipping the ball up to the centurion for an easy catch victory was on the cards. I would have to note perhaps the catch of the season was taken in short cover, a low left handed dive mere inches from the ground. Matt Sutton 3 for 19, John Gregson 2 for 18 and Fergus Deery 2 for 13 snaffled some wickets as there was a late rally from Smith 32 and young Melits 18* to finish on a respectable 119 for 9 in the allotted for overs.
