Another somewhat cold and windy day was on offer as Willoughby 2nds travelled the distance to visit Great Oakley.
After a success during the toss of the coin the Willoughby skipper chose to bat to the dismay of the team as they thought there was a potential we could be skittled out on a 'dodgy looking' pitch. Nevertheless the opening due of Sean Thornton and Dave Alcock set about to accumulate some runs. After the 10 over mark we found ourselves at 91 for 1 with Sean Thornton scoring another very quick 51. There was a brief interval to the carnage as Matt Goss (4) Dave Alcock with a well made 44 and Ian Andrews (24) departed. Aiden Porter on the other hand played excellent and scored a maiden 50 to finish 87* at the close of play. The outfield was in excellent condition and this was a game of 1 or 4. The 2nds finished on 263 for 6 off 40 overs.
After the tea interval Ryan Lines and Fergus Deery opened the bowling and saw about finishing off the game early, Deery bowling straight through putting Great Oakley on the back foot from the 1st over finishing with 5 for 14 off 10 overs. The opposition never got going and after throwing the ball to a plethora of bowling options Great Oakley finished on 88. Dillion White with 38 to his name. Moor, Alcock, Lines and Porter picking up a wicket apiece.
This puts the team in a good position to make an attack on the top 3 over the next month with the visit of Bugbrooke, Great Oakley and Geddington to The Green all propping up the bottom of the table.
