A surprising toss win from skipper Ben Hollis saw the visitors bat first on a slightly overcast day at the Green. The hosts got off to an excellent start, keeping the score low, with youngster Callum 'Cally' Hanks and the experienced Mark Fell picking up some well deserved early wickets, 1 for Callum and 2 for Mark. A change in the bowling saw Chait 'Roulette' Kurusala and skipper Ben Hollis join the attack, and both were unlucky not to take any wickets. A further change in the bowling saw Ash 'the lord' Rayner and Nikesh Mistry come into the attack at 2 well set batsmen which brought about a the a change in fortune with both picking up a wicket. It was during this spell where there was an extremely unfortunate accident to Michael Deery, where he was trying to run out the batsman, only for both of their momentums to cause Michael's hand to be spiked quite deeply. Michael was then taken to hospital where luckily, nothing was broken and we all wish him a speedy recovery. The runs continued to flow with the visitors keeping the scoreboard ticking over. Cally was then brought back into the attack and picked up a further wicket leaving the final total at 201-5. Pick of the bowlers were Mark Fell 2 - 22 and Callum Hanks 2 - 27.
In reply Willoughby were looking good with runs flowing from Hassan Nawaz (19), until Chait Kurusala was caught out in the 7th over. A couple of quick wickets then put the hosts on the back foot until Ian Hughes, playing his first game for a few years, and Ash Rayner were in the middle together. The old wise heads steadied the ship and looked to bring Willoughby back into the game. Ian was then bowled out and Callum joined Ash. Runs kept coming and the hosts found themselves on a very similar score to that of the visitors at the halfway stage, but remembering they only had 10 batsmen. Callum was then bowled and Mark Fell joined Ash, where they two of them put on nearly 40 to move the game back into the balance, before a spectacular sliding one handed catch removed Mark. Ash continued to stroke the ball around the ground, reaching his 50 with ease, but just kept 'running out' of partners. The hosts finished 50 short of the target with Ash making a superb 64 not out.
