A warm day at the green and we welcomed S + L Corby.
Another loss of toss for captain Ben Hollis and he was asked to bat surprisingly. Anshul Satsangi and Chait Kurusala opened the batting for the hosts , we got off to a bad start with Anshul playing across the line and being cleaned bowled for 8. Ashley Rayner joined Chait in the middle and steadied the ship, consistently rotating the strike and keeping the bowlers working hard. Chait opening up early and playing some lovely shots through the covers picking up runs quickly with Rayner supporting and ticking over nicely himself. Chait reached his half century with ease and kept his foot on the peddle before being bowled by Jack Scott with a well made 80. Scott Cluley was in at 4 and got to work straight away with some big shots and kept Dan Farrow's commentary flowing with " Save Em ". Rayner made light work of Corby's bowling attack and raced pasted his 50 and was in the 90's, he made his century and carried on punishing the bowling to finish the innings 122* and Scott Cluley 70 * Massive well done to Scott supporting Rayner along the way to his 100 and being there in the middle to celebrate with him. Willoughby 286-2.
After baking in the field and fetching many balls over the hedge for 45 overs, Corby's batsmen did not look keen to begin the task of chasing the score. Mark fell removed one of the openers for a duck with a brilliant caught and bowled, and then removing himself from the attack with a hamstring tweak 1-15 off 2. Hollis replaced Fell and bowled a decent line and length which he picked up 1 wicket 1-25 off 6. Trusty Dan Farrow darted through his allocated overs straight through and picked up 2 tidy wickets 2-26 off 10. Nikesh Mistry replaced Hollis adding some spin into the attack, he got the wicket of Martin Pearce ( 46 ) who was the only one really to get stuck in with the bat, with a smart sharp catch from Fell in the slips 2-31 off 9.2. Some great fielding through out the day from Willoughby protecting the boundary's and attacking the ball in the field, we was rewarded with 2 run outs, one for Farrow and one for Hollis. Callum Hanks keeping things tight as normal and picking up 2-37 off 8. S and L Corby all out for 138.
Fantastic batting performance from the lads and lets keep the momentum going forward for rest of the season. Congratulations to Ashley Rayner for getting another century and closing in on Kempy's record.
Next weekend were away to Mears Ashby.
