A four wicket haul for Jake Quinney with three also for Richard Foxon set Willoughby on their way to a comfortable victory over S & L Corby at The Green on Saturday.

The success also confirmed Ben Hollis’ side’s Division 6 status for next term with an improvement in form coming at the right time and from a precarious position just over a month ago.

The hosts got off to the perfect start as Callum Hanks bowled one of the visitor’s openers Stephen Hallam for a duck with only the fifth ball of the match which set the tone for a useful display in the field. Quinney continued that momentum five overs later by taking two wickets in three balls ahead of adding another two scalps in his six over spell to leave the visitors in disarray at 29 for 5.

However Ryan Buckingham was still in from opening and attempted to add some respectability to the visitor’s scorecard. He reached 46 before becoming of Foxon’s three victims, as was Aman Singh after making 25 which with extras were the only double figure score from the visitors. 3 for 40. Hollis came on to take 2 for 23 as S & L were bowled out for 101; Quinney finishing with 4 for 16 off 9 overs, Foxon 3 for 40.

In reply, Martin Nichols and Chaitanya Kurusala gave Willoughby the perfect platform putting on 34 before the former departed for 16 and then Kurusala for 25 with the score on 61. However Ashley Rayner in at three (32 not out) remained and with James Goodwin (24 not out) crafted an unbeaten stand of 43 to see Willoughby to their target and the eight wicket success with no further alarm.
