Defeat to league champions

Another tough Saturday for the X1 away to current champions Syresham.

After skipper Hollis winning the toss for the first time this season he elected to bowl first. Lee Johnson made his return back to cricket taking the first over with Richard Foxon at the other end. Foxon struck early taking one of their openers playing very aggressively spooning one straight up in the air right down Hollis throat which he took well, he seemed to loose his line and length after 4 tough overs and was replaced by Ashley Rayner. Rayner bowled a tight line and picked up 2 wickets finishing on 50-2 off 12. Lee was trying everything he could to get his name down in the book but was very unfortunate not to get a wicket, bowling straight through finishing on 0-57. Hollis had a 9 over spell picking up some good wickets and making his first fifer in the first team and trapping there big hitter LBW, finishing 50-5 off 9. Martin Nichols also chipping taking a wicket finishing 1-26 off 5. Syresham finished on a good score of 221 all out.

Martin Nichols and Keith Gibson opened the batting for Willoughby. First couple of overs were quick and straight and didn’t give us anything, Martin got triggered and was given LBW early on. Gibson was then joined by young Tom Stevenson who looked in good form battling away keeping his wicket intact against their opening bowlers. Stevenson scored 10 before being caught by a ridiculously good low catch by the keeper. Stuart Hall making a quick 12 before he gets cleaned up middle stump. And then we had a middle order collapse loosing Graham Hallam for a golden duck , Matt Goss for a duck and Richard Foxon for a duck. Hollis made 7 before getting out to LBW. A late show of fireworks from Sean Thornton top scoring with 36 before being cleaned bowled and replaced by lee Johnson who also scored you guessed it a duck and Ashley Rayner scoring 34 not out.

Was a tough afternoon all round and everyone gave it 100 percent. Was a good performance and played in good spirit and hopefully our first win in the premier league is not to far away.
