A solid performance

A blistering hot day as Willoughby's first's arrived at Desborough. Skipper Ben Hollis lost to toss and was asked to bowl first. Everyone plastered on the sun cream and took to the field we began the hunt for wickets.

After a team talk everyone was fired up and ready to go, early wicket was key and chasing anything less than 180 here was a below par score. Callum Hanks and Mark Fell were given the new cherry and had some early success. Desborough fell from 30-0 to 43-3 very quickly with 3 fine catches from Chait Kurusala. Captain Peel and big hitter Moody were in for Desborough and looked to re build their innings. Dan Farrow and Stuart Bonthuys were brought into the attack and also got their name in the book, Farrow with a superb caught and bowled to remove Peel for the second time after he bowled him a few deliveries previous but sadly was a no ball. Bonthuys looked sharp and had some decent pace and was rewarded with his second ball lighting up the " zing stumps " clean bowling Moody for 10. Bonthuys was again in the action this time with a outstanding one handed catch from Mark Fell in second slip. Alex Hislop was brought into the attack replacing Farrow and continued where he left off from last week, Hislop found his line straight away and he had the ball whistling past the outside edge and picked up a wicket with a good catch by Hollis in slips. Fell returned and moped up the tail and Desborough slumped to 106 all out off 29.4 overs. Hanks 30-1, Fell 24-4, Farrow 18-2, Bonthuys 9-2,Hislop 12-1.

Hassan Nawaz and Callum Hanks opened up the batting and began the chase, Nawaz finding the boundary with ease using the fast outfield well scoring six fours and one six before departing for 37. Rayner joined Hanks and was caught for a duck. Kurusala made 5 before being bowled by a gaffer, Willoughby were 67-3 after 11 overs, Cluley joined Hanks and the pair made light work of the bowlers and continued to be positive and score runs quickly. Hanks and Cluley seen us home inside 15 overs and we finished 107-3.

Another solid performance all round, another great team performance , another great standard in the field and another win on the road. Confidence is high and edging closer to a promotion place in the league table. Sitting 28 points behind second place and still to play the top 2 teams again at home.

Willoughby welcome Stony Stratford to the Green next weekend.
