Jug Avoidance again for the bowlers....

Willoughby's first X1 travelled to Ruston on another sunny Saturday, Skipper Ben Hollis surprisingly won the toss and elected to bowl first on a very green wicket. Mark Fell and Callum Hanks opened the bowling and kept things very tight in their first spell. Ruston batsmen couldn't really get going and found things very tricky to come across scoring any runs. A fine bit of team fielding and we was rewarded with our first wicket with a nice run out. Fell rattled through his over and was very unfortunate not to get a wicket 0-23 off his 7 overs. Vikas Sangwan and Stuart Bonthuys were brought into the attack and spice things up, the bowling change worked straight away with Sangwan picking up his first wicket in his second over bowling their opening batsmen middle stump. Bonthuys was to much to handle for the Rushton's batsmen and ripped through there middle order with ease finishing on 4-10 off 10 overs. Sangwan also kept bowling well and picked up 2 more wickets finishing on 3-26 off 9. Rushton finished on a below par score of 86 all out.

Willoughby's opening batsmen Callum Hanks and Chait Kurusala took guard and got things under way quickly. The pair decided running two threes in the first over was a good idea in the heat, Chait had a fine edge down the leg side and was caught by Rushton's keeper. Ashley the lord Rayner joined Hanks in the middle and got off the mark with a fine single. Hanks was in the mood to score runs and quickly, punishing both good and bad balls to the boundary and over the ropes which was good to watch. Rayner edged behind to second slip and was caught, this brought young Ambrose Deery to the crease. Ambrose looked in good touch rotating the strike and pushing the ball into the gaps. Hanks and Ambrose saw us home in the 14th over with a lovely 4 through the covers, Hanks reached his debut half century and finished on 52* and Ambrose made a lovely 22*.

A great team performance all round again and deserved the victory. We go again next weakened against Stony Stratford.
