Finally a toss won...

Another sunny Saturday morning down the green and we welcomed Brigstock CC for the first time. Things got off to the best start possible with captain Ben Hollis finally winning a toss. Hollis elected to field first and backed Willoughby batsmen to chase.

A new opening partner for Mark fell with the ball as Chait Kurusala was given the new ball. Both started really well bowling in some great rhythm offering Udall and Morris not much to go at. Fell and Kurusala were both unlucky not to pick up a wicket in their first spell but kept things super tight and the overs soon caught up with the runs. Vikas Sangwan and Stuart Bonthuys were brought into the attack and made a impact straight away, Sangwan managed to cause a leading edge from Udall which Cluley took with ease. Bonthuys was showing his class with the ball and his pace was proven to much to handle, Morris finally edged one and Hollis took a fine low catch at fourth slip. Brigstock's middle order found it really tough rebuilding and scoring runs. Bonthuys ripped through the middle order and finished his spell 4-19 off 10 overs. Mistry was brought into the attack tempt the tail enders into some big shots, he picked up a well deserved wicket 1-25 off 8. Kurusala and Fell was brought back on in the final overs to finish there allocated 10 overs, fell picking up two 2-17 off 10 with 5 maidens, and Kurusala finishing on 1-40 off 10 overs.
Brigstock slumped to 139-9 off 45 overs. A really big effort with the ball from everyone especially Chait as he has never bowled 10 overs in a game before considering he's a part time spin bowler.

Willoughby's opening batsmen Hassan Nawaz and Chait Kurusala made light work of Brigstock's opening bowlers , Kurusala putting the first ball of the innings straight over covers head for four. Hassan was soon to get off the mark and really shown some aggression early in his innings. The pair managed a opening partnership of 79 before Chait was caught for a well made 42.. Ashley Rayner the anchor looked solid as ever scoring a good 15 before very honestly walking after he edged behind to the keeper. We were 98-2 off 17 overs and young Ambrose joined Hassan in the middle and kept things ticking over nicely, giving Hassan the strike as much as he could. George Butler commented a few times ' its not every week you get to bowl at Steve Smith ',Ambrose was showing his confidence with some TV looking like leaves of the ball which was good to watch. Hassan finishing on 66* and Ambrose 9* seeing us home for a comfortable win.

Hats off to the groundmen Fergus Deery for preparing an absolutely dream of a wicket, every week the wickets are getting better and better and your work is certainty not going unnoticed. A great standard in the field and with the bat by everyone involved. Next week we face a good Saints side away from home so will we look to continue our good form.
