Solid performance all round

Final weekend of friendly cricket we welcomed Towcestrains to The Green, Captain Ben Hollis won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Dan Farrow and Jake Quinney took the new ball and caused absolute chaos for the batsmen from ball one. Dan firing down a superb length ball after ball, whistling past off stump and the batsmen's edge. He was finally rewarded with a wicket with a catch from Chait Kurusala on his third attempt after two juggles. Jake Quinney at the other end steaming in, bowled in the right areas at a good pace which kept our special guest gloveman (Mark Fell) hand's warm. Both Dan and Jake were bowling really well and in a good rhythm giving their skipper no choice to bowl them out. Dan finished on 2-31 and Jake 2-25. The old saying 'one brings two' played its part today, the first wicket fell in the 8th over 40-1 and the wickets kept tumbling quickly to 64-7 at drinks. Alex Hislop made his club debut and saw a beautiful delivery go right through the batmen and straight onto his stumps with his first wicket for the club, although he was unfortunate to pull up with a groin strain which saw him out of the attack 1-15. Ben Hollis picked up three wickets bowling a good line and length 3-17. John Gregson and Nikesh Mistry chipping in with 1 wicket each finishing things off in 27 overs 125 all out.

Chait and Scott Cluley opened the batting and didn't seem in any trouble at all . Both waiting for the bad balls and punishing them well into the gaps and to the boundary. Towcestrains bowlers were struggling to find the break through they wanted, with Chait reaching his half century and Scott supporting his innings through out. They both started to open up and play more aggressive shots in from the 9th over and runs started coming quickly which saw Willoughby over the line inside 19 overs.

Great performance by everyone today and played in good spirit. Comfortable win overall and set us up for next weeks first league game of the season. Thanks to Mark for volunteering to put the gloves on and keeping wicket for the day.

Next up for the Saturday 1s - Rothwell II (away) in Division 6 of the NCL, Saturday 8th May. 12:00 midday start.
