Willoughby skittle Norton Lindsey for 32! (yes, 32)

Club Friendly
Sunday 8th June 2008

Willoughby v Norton Lindsey

Norton Lindsey 32 all out

Willoughby 33 for 1

Willoughby won by 9 wickets

An extraordinary club friendly at Pye Court in the baking Sunday afternoon sun saw the Willoughby Elders scratching for the record books after one of the lowest scoring senior matches for some time.

What made matters even more startling in Willoughby's nine wicket win over visitors Norton Lindsey was that recent encounters between the two sides have yielded some high scoring close encounters.

Sunday was very much the exception to those facts as a combination of useful Willoughby bowling and some calamitous visiting batting saw the 'main event' completed well before its anticipated finish.
Norton won the toss and opted to bat, and were soon in trouble with Karl Quinney (2 for 13) and promising youngsters James Green applying the early pressure. The first change of bowling then saw John Gregson with four wickets, Green with one and Pete Reynolds nab three to skittle the visitors for a mere total of 32.

Willoughby's reply was swift with the hosts' Bhavik Solanki and Ashley Rayner taking Willoughby past the target in just more than eight overs; Gurj Rupal the only casualty and Norton success
To add insult to injury, the 20 over 'beer game' that followed was also won by the hosts, although in not-so-clinical fashion despite the aforementioned Reynolds coming off his full run-up.

Other points of Note:

Press Officer/scribe turning over 2 tidy overs of spin in latter stages of the afternoon
Skipper Cumiskey mis-calculating player numbers.
Another fine tea (thank you ladies)
James Green - rising and promising star in the making?
