Division 4
Chipping Warden v Willoughby 'A'
Willoughby 'A' 201 for 9
Chipping Warden 111 all out
Willoughby 'A' won by 90 runs
Better news down the A361 as Willoughby 'A' secured a useful success on their travels at the quaint setting of Chipping Warden
In warm still consitions, the visitors batted first and despite losing opener Matt Goss - stumped off only the seventh ball of the match, set a good total for the hosts to chase, largely thanks to Tom Green and Gurj Rupal. Together they put on a 2nd wicket stand of 143 with Green making a fine 70, Rupal an equally impressive 65. A flurry of late wickets in the latter stages of the innings did not halt a push for runs which saw Willoughby close on 201 for 9.
After a truly excellent tea, the hosts set about their chase in meaningful fashion, capitalising on some loose bowling from one end in the opening eight overs. From the other, Alan Rumbelow bowled another fine opening stint of eight overs without success as Martin Nichols got the all-important breakthrough to halt the home side's momentum, eventually taking the first three wickets; one coming via the hands of 'Birthday Boy' Brian Hall, who celebrated turning 61 with a sharp catch taken at point. The introduction of Press Officer to replace the luckless Rumbelow saw the game further head the visitor's way. Quinney took 5 for 27 ripping through the middle-to-late order, before a wicket each for Rupal and Goss at the death completed the 'A' side's victory, and a useful one ahead of three forthcoming games against teams in the top four chasing Willoughby.
