'A's battle back with the bat to defeat Charlton (23.5.09)

Division 4

Willoughby A (176 for 6) beat Charlton (174 for 4) by 4 wickets

Willoughby A enjoyed their fourth straight success from a long trip to Charlton.

The hosts won the toss and decided to bat and were indebted to experienced opener Brian Taylor. Following up his ton from last week, he hit another, making 119 from Charlton's eventual total of 174 for 4. Willoughby's bowlers toiled for long periods as Martin Bowley bowled two fine spells without just reward as Martin Nichols took 3 for 41 and Karl Quinney 1 for 31.

In reply, Matt Goss (18) and Quinney (20) - the latter in the unaccustomed role as opener, got the visitors off to a decent start putting 49 on for the first wicket. Gurj Rupal then took over matters, making a useful top score of 47, before some typically hard-hitting from Karl Harland with 34 took Willoughby to the brink of victory; Nichols and Ryan Perry completing the job with 3 overs to spare.
