Saturday's opening encounter of the season for Willoughby at Southam proved a typically good work-out, with the home side running out winners.

The hosts batted first and having recovered from initially being 37 for 4, made a useful 199 for 9. Vernon in lower order making a valuable 58 not out, with Heath making 39 and Wilkens 28.
For the Willoughby attack, Pete Reynolds took 4 for 37, with Martin Nichols (2 for 36) and impressive debutant Josh Slade (2-24) also amongst the wickets.

In reply, Willoughby's 106 for 9 fell well short. Dave Alcock with 29 and Nichols with 22 the highlights as Southam won by 93 runs.
