It is with great sadness to report the untimely death of Richard Turner, club scorer at Willoughby CC.
Richard - or 'Sam' as he was more widely known, was a household figure and character at Willoughby CC, and more so a dedicated member and servant of the club.
He was the club's scorer for a great many years, and also took great interest in development of the club's young cricketers and the club's affairs as a whole; amongst other things being an active and integral part of the club's annual 6-a-side day.
Such was his character, Richard made a wealth of friends in local and regional cricketing circles. Over the years - and more often than not, dutifully armed with his box of pens, he had probably covered every ground Willoughby has played at, such was his dedication to his role at the club and his interest in local cricket.
His colourfully accurate and meticulous attention to detail rightly earned him plaudits and a fine reputation for what he did and enjoyed, which subsequently saw him invited to score at a number of high profile league and county cup matches and finals.
'Sam' will undoubtedly be sadly missed by the great number of people who knew and were acquainted with him; in particular his passing will leave a great void at Willoughby CC.
Richard's funeral took place on Thursday 26th March, at Braunston Church.
The clubs thoughts and condolences are with Richard's family at this very sad time.
